      VMS ENGINEER - REMOTE

      Skilled OpenVMS Engineer with experience supporting DEC VAX and Alpha OpenVMS systems in manufacturing critical environments. This client-facing position will be part of a team responsible for the support of plant-based, legacy Dow OpenVMS systems running on several client networks (Olin, Corteva, DuPont and IFF), as well as transforming the environment from physical to emulated systems. In addition, this position will be responsible for the design, development, deployment, configuration and support of backup and monitoring tools and scripts used in the on-going DXC VMS support services for the same clients. Strong DCL scripting skills and experience with DXC GSE/SM and Dow DSVE tools are critical to fulfilling these responsibilities. The VMS Engineer will need experience virtualizing VAX/VMS system onto Windows servers using the CHARON VAX emulator.

      The VMS Engineer will be responsible for evaluation, deployment and support of any additional commercial products required for specialized backup and recovery requirements identified as part of the transformation activities. This position will also develop and maintain required documentation for the tools and procedures deployed in the environment.

      The VMS Engineers will work closely together as a team to manage the numerous systems, as well as partner frequently with key client contacts and colleagues from other support and technology organizations involved in support of the systems. Therefore, interpersonal skills in areas such as oral and written communication, flexibility and collaboration are as vital as technical ability.

      KEY SKILLS – VMS Engineer needs to have demonstrated skills in the following areas:

      • OpenVMS/VAX 5.5-2, 6.2 support
      • DCL scripting
      • DXC OpenVMS SOE and GSE/SM toolset
      • DSVE (configuration and management scripting language)
      • Hardware configuration for VAX 4000 systems with external StorageWorks SCSI disk drives
      • CHARON VAX emulator
      • ConsoleWorks monitoring software
      • Console Manager
      • SLS and ABS
      • OpenVMS backup
      • KnapSac backup utility
      • System Watchdog
      • DECscheduler
      • Experience with VMware ESXi is desired

      Other Qualifications

      • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
      • Strong English oral and written communication skills
      • Good personal computer and business solutions software skills
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

      Compensation at DXC is influenced by an array of factors, including but not limited to the experience, job-related knowledge, skills, competencies, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. A reasonable estimate of the current compensation range for this position is $106,500 - $159,700.
